Chikungunya in the Caribbean and South America Confirmed cases of chikungunya have been reported on many islands in the Caribbean and in French Guiana. Chikungunya is a disease spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. It typically causes fever combined with arthritis-like pain in the joints.
