Children’s concert, movie on tap At Grand Theatre FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 1, 2014) – The Grand Theatre’s summer programming continues this week with a children’s concert and Friday night movie. Singer and storyteller Carla Gover will perform at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, as part of the summer children’s program. Gover is a former member of the duo Zoe Speaks and performs original songs in a variety of styles from pop to traditional ballads. She plays both banjo and guitar and frequently accompanies her songs with lively dancing. Admission is $5. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, the Grand will present the hit comedy “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Joel and Ethan Coen borrow from Homer’s epic poem “The Odyssey” to tell the story of three jail escapees looking for treasure in 1930s Mississippi. Kentucky’s own George Clooney stars in this offbeat comedy as one of the escapees. The film also stars John Turturro, Holly Hunter, John Goodman and Charles Durning. “O Brother” sparked an interest in roots music, with a soundtrack album featuring performers such as Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss and Ralph Stanley. “O Brother” is rated “PG-13.” Admission is $6. Tickets for both events will be sold at the door or may be purchased in advance by visiting the ticket office, 312 W. Main St., weekdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., or by calling 352-7469.
