Chime vows to resist imposition of candidates From, Maureen Ikpeama, Enugu As the political crisis in Enugu state deepens following the face-off between the major key players in the state, the state governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime and the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, the governor has affirmed his readiness to fight against god-fatherism in the forthcoming elections, advising PDP stakeholders in the state to always ensure that all their political programmes and activities were in accordance with the constitution of the party. Addressing a meeting of the party stakeholders in Enugu Governor Chime made it clear that PDP constitution recognizes rotation and zoning of political offices. He added that the concept of perpetuating oneself in office negates the laid down rules as contained in the party constitution. Governor Chime who is also the leader of the party in the state said that PDP will resist the imposition of candidates on the people and will continue to consult with stake holders in any major decision to make the party great. According to the Governor “one should see any position one is holding as a privilege to serve the people. If you serve very well they will beg you to come again. You must subject yourself to the will of the people and not to intimidate them”. The State Chief Executive appealed to party stakeholders to remain focused and united with the same spirit with which the party was formed. The Governor warned that whoever wishes to destroy the party is working towards his retirement politically. He regretted the attitude of some politicians in the state who block the chances of others into elective posts adding that those who served should give others the opportunity to serve as well. On the alleged PDP ward congress in the state the Governor and the stakeholders described it as a sharm and inacceptable noting that it is after the congress and primaries that campaign will start. Governor Chime told the stakeholders that the meeting was convened to brief them on the current situation of things in the party and to clear the ramous making round in the party in the state by detractors. He used the occasion to call for prayers for those he described as detractors who do not wish the party well so that they would rethink and come back to the big party umbrella which has rooms for them. The Governor described as very unfortunate the un-warranted attacks on his person by a media outfit in the state adding that he will not join issue with such people in their pettiness. Mr. Chime noted that within the next six months he will leave office assuring them that he will hand over a peaceful and united PDP to a very credible successor in the State. He therefore thanked the people of the state for their unwavering support in the past seven and half years which enabled his administration record giant strides in the state. In his contribution, the former Chairman of PDP in the state Chief Vita Abba thanked the people of the state for the opportunity given to him to service Chief Abba also urged the stakeholders to remain calm and focused since victory is assured at the end. Earlier the new PDP Chairman in the state Chief Ikeji Asogwa described the meeting as a huge success and thanked the party stakeholders for attending en mass even at short notice.
