Chimurenga Music Company (CMC) Press Release on the SA Tour Following the South African tour by Dr Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited, sponsored by Silent Killer Promotions, Chimurenga Music Company (CMC) wishes to thank all our fans who come to support us during this tour. We are very grateful and indebted for the faith you showed in supporting Chimurenga music, a rare genre that has managed to shape our identity as Zimbabweans. However we also wish to extend our sincere apologies to our fans especially those who attended the Johannesburg concert held at the Standard Bank Arena for the poor sound quality and an abrupt end after Mukanya had only performed for just over an hour. The events on Saturday were unfortunate and beyond our control as the promoters were the ones in charge of the program. We hereby wish to express our disappointment in the manner in which Silent Killer Promotions handled the whole tour. When we entered into the agreement to we did so in good faith and we were looking forward to entertain our multitudes of fans in Southern Africa. However, the unprofessional conduct exhibited by Silent Killer Promotions leaves a lot to be desired. From the day we entered into the agreement we experienced challenges from flight bookings, substandard hotel accommodation especially in Cape Town, poor marketing and advertising of the shows which resulted in the low attendance in Mussina. The Johannesburg concert was marred by poor sound quality as the organisers failed to arrange the PA system on time despite that our band was at the venue five hours before our scheduled time to check on the sound quality. When the band finally took to the stage at 0100hours, the police and venue owners surprisingly approached Mukanya on stage informing him that time was up as the promoters had booked the venue until 0200hours. On the agreement promoter had told us that it was an all night concert but the abrupt end left our fans disappointed, at the same time blaming Mukanya, whereas the promoters were solely the ones to blame. As Chimurenga Music Company we do not hate promoters, but we despise unprofessionalism, breach of contracts and dishonest especially with our local promoters. In future we will not be entertaining local promoters for our homecoming shows in September this year, Chimurenga Music company will organise its shows. Lastly we wish to clarify the unfortunate comments attributed to Dr Mapfumo in yesterday’s edition of the Herald titled ‘’Mukanya blasts Tsvangirai.’’ The statements are untrue and they portray Dr Mapfumo in bad light. Dr Mapfumo is not aligned to any political party and has nothing to do with neither party politics nor politicians. He is concerned about the hate amongst political parties and calls for Zimbabweans to be united and work to develop Zimbabwe. He appreciates the role played by Morgan Tsvangirai in the history of our country despite the mistakes he has made along the way.
