China Conservatory Orchestra Australian Concert Tour 2014Hobart Federation Concert Hall – Sunday 23 NovemberExploring the Soul of Chinese Culture through Folk MusicAfter a successful tour in Australia last year, the China Conservatory Orchestra (CCO) will make their second tour to Australia performing one concert only at the Hobart Federation Concert Hall on Sunday 23 November.Established in 1964, CCO is acclaimed to be the most devoted and professional folk music orchestra in China. The performance of the orchestra is unique in that it takes its roots from the traditional Chinese folk and opera music allowing the charm of the oriental mystery to blend into the modern folk music style.Proudly led by the laureate conductor Maestro Kuan Naichung, the concert will feature the renowned Erhu soloist, Song Fei, the Queen of Chinese folk music. Erhu is a traditional string instrument known as the ‘Chinese violin’. It was developed during the Tang Dynasty and has been played for more than two thousand years. The concert will also highlight award-winning musicians Song Fei and percussionist Wang Yidong.
