China Said to Pull the Strings in Hong Kong Crackdown My first - TopicsExpress

China Said to Pull the Strings in Hong Kong Crackdown My first response to the headline was, well I would hope so. Of course it is the NY Times, mouthpiece for the anti-communist Eastern establishment, so they refer to police actions to clear city streets of illegal obstacles to let the vast majority of Hong Kong residents move about freely in their own city, a crackdown. And the Chinese government in exercising its legitimate rights regarding the status of Hong Kong, is playing a hidden role. The basic mistake of the Western media however is the underlying assumption that the Chinese Communist regime feels threatened by whats happening in Hong Kong to the extent that they fear for the preservation of Communist power. This assumption flies in the face of all indications that show that the overwhelming majority of Chinese people support President Xi Jinping, the CPC and the Peoples government. The Chinese governments policies have been far more successful and have benefited far more people than those of nearly any other country on Earth. It is the US Government which has lost the confidence of its citizens and should fear for its stabilization and preservation, not Chinas. So what then are Chinas concerns about the situation in Hong Kong? It is that there are foreign agents in Hong Kong who have whipped up a frenzy among disaffected and culturally denatured youth to engage in an anarchistic struggle to paralyze Hong Kong. It should be obvious that no responsible government can allow that to continue. The Chinese people in their billions would welcome a real cleansing of Hong Kong streets but both HKG and Beijing realize that is not in the interests of long-term public order. The students must be made to acknowledge the error of their ways by dint of negative examples and the pent-up outrage of everyday people against their irresponsible behavior. This is no Occupy Movement as in the US in which occupations occurred in public spaces which did not obstruct traffic or the daily lives of other citizens. They were meant to reframe the political discourse and influence peoples thinking about economic and political issues in the US. The OC movement in HKG is meant to shut down Hong Kong and hold it hostage to the political demands of a minority which lacks broad public support. What is happening in HKG is thus not civil disobedience but civil insurrection, which cannot be tolerated by any government whether it be in Hong Kong, China, the US or any other country in the world. nytimes/2014/10/18/world/asia/china-is-directing-response-to-hong-kong-protests.html?_r=0
