China changes focus to quality In a speech yesterday to the World Economic Forum in Dalian, China, Premier Li Keqiang emphasised the quality of growth over quantity, according to Frontier Advisory’s Martyn Davies. He said: “While this ‘rebalancing’ may be good for China over the longer term, it is not such good news for Africa as China’s growth will become less resource intensive and rather consumer driven.” He noted that Africa’s recent growth had been underpinned by “China’s heavy fixed asset investment growth model over the last decade and a half”.
