Chinas military officials to hand back properties #Military - TopicsExpress

Chinas military officials to hand back properties #Military officials in #China have been told they must return their #properties if considered too excessive. According to authorities, military and armed police officials may only own one public housing unit, and its size must reflect the officials rank. Officials were ordered to give back any public housing that exceeded these limits, while retired officials and the families of deceased are also being asked to vacate extra properties, if they already own real estate. The crack down on property came after a military inspection last year showed irregularities in housing and infrastructure, as part of an official anti-#corruption campaign. According to authorities, whilst progress has been made, some retired officials were hampering efforts by failing to comply with the order. As punishment any who violate the order will be forced to pay rent equal to the most expensive commercial housing in the district, while welfare and bonuses will also be cut. Earlier in the month President Xi Jinping also announced that he would be revoking the free car and chauffer bonus to all except the most senior government officials. Netizens on China’s social media sites were, not surprisingly, supportive of the move: “If this tough group could be cracked down on, other corrupted groups wont be a problem.” @dongxiaojietameideerbiaoge “This policy from President Xi is really good. The problem will then only be how this will be implemented. The environment among Chinese officials really needs to be cleaned.” @xianggewangmingworongyima “If information are transparent and properties could be disclosed, all the problems will be readily solved.” @turentaiduo
