Chinese from mainland are bonded into a cultural recognition to the country, not regional or racial. Since 1997 the new generations in Hong Kong ignored this cultural recognition but started to find their own regional superiority as “Hongkongese”. This difference leads to today’s crisis and you can’t simply say which side is right or what side is wrong. Cognition is so different that it’s like casting pearls before swine (this is a phrase, not literally meaning).
