Chiropractic: Deconditioning Syndrome. The negative effects of immobilization (lack of proper motion) begin as soon as four hours after injury! The effects it has on muscles include weakness, lack of coordination, decreased flexibility, reduced oxidative potential, diminished muscle mass, increased connective tissue fibrosis, Type I & II muscle atrophy, and 20% loss of muscle strength per week. -Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, 1992
