Chivas USA Acquire Forward Érick ‘Cubo’ Torres Torres joins the Rebaño Angelino on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, July 10, 2013) – Chivas USA announced today the acquisition of center forward Érick “Cubo” Torres via loan from brother institution Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V. Torres, who is currently training with the team in Philadelphia, will be eligible to play for the Red-and-White pending the arrival of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa. Per Major League Soccer and club policies, details of this transaction will not be disclosed. The 22-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico, came up through Chivas Guadalajara’s Youth System; he made his professional debut with Guadalajara’s First Team against C.F. Monterrey at age 17 on Nov. 13, 2010. In the 2011 Clausura Tournament, “Cubo” Torres earned a starting spot with the Red-and-White team led by José Luis “El Güero” Real. The forward scored six goals in 15 regular-season games, taking the team to the playoffs and the semifinal stage against Pumas de la UNAM. “Érick’s arrival is very important to Chivas USA as he will strengthen an area of the team that most needs it,” said Technical Director José Luis Real regarding the forward’s arrival. “He’s a different and highly experienced player. He’s a young forward who made his debut at age 17 and who has always proven himself to be a player with a very bright future. Mentally he is very strong and positive, and that’s what we need in a center forward at Chivas.” Torres continued to be the starting forward in the 2011 Apertura Tournament, scoring five goals in 12 games. In 2012, he remained in his role with Guadalajara, as he also participated in the Copa Libertadores and the CONCACAF Champions League. While playing in the Champions League, the forward scored a goal against W Connection in Trinidad & Tobago. In the 2013 Clausura Tournament, the attacker played five games with the First Team and then moved on to reinforce Guadalajara’s U-20 team that reached the playoffs. “Cubo” became one of the most important pieces in the team’s championship conquest against Tigres. “I’m very happy to be joining Chivas USA,” said Torres on his arrival to the club. “I’m very motivated to be here and to also have very good teammates. I’m coming to Chivas USA with the motivation to do things very well and to provide the team with everything I have.” His stelar participation with the Rebaño Sagrado also allowed him to play with Mexico’s U-20 National Team in the World Cup, where the center forward and ‘El Tricolor’ earned a historic third-place finish. Torres and Chivas USA will conclude their 10-day road trip from Texas to the East Coast when they play the Philadelphia Union on Friday, July 12. Thus far in the trip, the Rebaño Angelino have earned two draws, first against FC Dallas on July 4, and most recently against the Montreal Impact three days later.
