Choice in Dying conversation continues to gain momentum. NJ bill - TopicsExpress

Choice in Dying conversation continues to gain momentum. NJ bill being debated now in state senate. Philadelphia Inquirer (Tuesday December 9 p. A-3) carried major article by Michael Vitez: Debate on Making End-Of-Life Care Work. Report on Harris poll realesed last week stating that 72% of Americans support physician-assisted suicide. Annals of Internal Medicine Journal just published edition featuring four commentaries on recent Inst. of Medicines Dying in America report that called for better training and awareness in end of life issues. We haev posted numerous articles on this , including a proposed piece of legislation on compensating doctors who provide end-of-life discussions.( see Nov. 19 post) Still, I cannot help but think that the emphasis on end-of-life/dying may be better focused on choosing how to live as life ebbs, not how to die. Would that change make a difference? This debate will intensify as boomers age and as we wish greater input and control over life.
