Chomsky wouldnt be... Chomsky, if he didnt use dramatic language. Hes a linguist, so he knows what he is doing with that. If you can get past the over-the-top bit about Snowden and the Greenwald book promotion, I think this is worth reading. What he is saying-- we, the people, are the enemy in the eyes of the state-- Id add, even if our enemy status is not consciously perceived by all in power, the same end effect is created. We have met the enemy and he is us-- in a totally different context. Edit: ha! Even though the enemy formulation seems to increase stress/ division, there might be other ways to think about it-- if we see that is the perception on the part of some in the state, instead of fulfilling that perception by behaving in enemy-like ways, we could maybe change it... alternet.org/civil-liberties/noam-chomsky-surveillance-state-beyond-imagination-being-created-one-freest?page=0%2C1
