Choosing Chicago is the right decision for the museum, but a difficult decision for me personally because of my strong personal and professional roots in San Francisco, George Lucas, a native of Modesto, said in a statement late Tuesday. I thank all Californians who reached out to me in support of the museum. Im sorry, Mr. Lucas, if you search your heart you know this really wasnt the right decision for your museum. Many of the experts in the field of digital film-making and the pioneers who developed the technology are based in the Bay Area. They are the people who are the go-to experts for special programs, classes and workshops. This decision certainly hurts the museums educational mission to some degree. And good luck drawing crowds with the frigid, icy weather in Chicago. San Francisco offers far more moderate weather year-round.
