Choosing The Right Pet When it comes to selecting a pet for yourself or your family, nothing is more important than research. Regardless of what kind of pet you’re looking for, whether it be a dog, a lizard or a bird, the key to having a happy, healthy, life-long companion is doing an adequate amount of research and preparation before making the long-term commitment of pet ownership. Taking the proper preliminary steps to assure you’re choosing the companion animal that is right for you can eliminate a lot of unnecessary stress, frustration and heartache for you and your pet in the future.That being said, that’s why here at Birds Unlimited, we pride ourselves on being educated on the various species of birds we have here in our store. In trying to identify what species of bird may be a good fit, we will discuss the individuals living environment and what limitations/challenges that may pose. We will discuss the required care and up keep of the particular bird in question as well as temperament, life span, training with positive reinforcement and other things of that nature. When it comes time for someone to bring their bird home with them, we go over and send them home with all the necessary information printed out to try and make the transition as smooth as possible. The staff at the store has a high level of interest in anything having to do with birds and has even gone the extra mile to become certified in aviculture through the AFA (American Federation of Aviculture). With this level of motivation to continue to learn and advance ourselves in this practice, we can feel assured that we’re helping our customers make the best decision when selecting a bird as a pet. With the hands on experience that we continue to gain with our own birds and through our educational endeavors we feel confident that we can provide a reliable resource of information for our customers throughout the life of their bird.
