Chris sent this in: This happened in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I think you should do a story about things like this. This is another classic case of Police Brutality from the CRPD on 5-1-2013. Just getting home from the grocery store with grocery bags in hand the CRPD decide that they want to arrest this man on a charge from 3 years previous in which they have no evidence against him. They claim that they have a warrant and when he asks them to see it, 4 cops decide that they will throw him to the ground face first in front of his 9 year old son. There is blood dripping everywhere from his face and the son is terrified of what they will do next. They throw him into the back of the squad car where a CRPD officer that is 2Xs his size starts jumping on him and cover his face with a mesh bag. Now he cant see or hardly breathe. Not to mention that he is basically knocked unconscious from the officer shoving him into the squad car and hitting his head on the car. They hog tie him and take him to the Emergency Room where they drive very slowly. The person taking this picture was threatened that if they did not return to the home that they would be charged as well. At the ER the Dr was Julie M Beard, D.O. She refused to do anything in regard to this patient except give a tetanus shot. The patient asked for a Cat Scan, Pictures of damage to body, Medicine for pain, and to clean the blood off his face and she refused to do anything. In fact she said I dont care what you want. Im your doctor and Im here to treat you. There was no treatment that happened here except a bandage was wrapped around the right knee cap and that was done by a nurse. When the family came to the hospital to see this man, they were not allowed to see him. The CRPD are trying to claim that this man resisted arrest because he asked for the warrant and that he assaulted a Police Officer to cover up what they did. The police also added these extra charges to keep the defendant in jail because they knew that the original charge would not keep him in jail. This happens a lot from the CRPD and it needs to stop. Innocent people are getting beat up by the CRPD because of excessive force. There is no need for this behavior and the cops involved in this should be fired immediately. UPDATE: ON 6-17-2013 THE JOHNSON COUNTY ATTORNEYS OFFICE FILED FOR THE ORIGINAL CASE TO BE DISMISSED BECAUSE THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS FOR THIS OFFENSE EXPIRED ON 04/22/13 (3 YEARS). THIS MEANS THAT THE ORIGINAL CHARGE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN FILED AND CRPD SHOULD NOT HAVE SHOWN UP TO MY DOOR ON 5-1-2013. IF THEY HAD EVIDENCE THAT I COMMITED ANY CRIME THEN THEY WOULD HAVE CHARGED ME YEARS AGO. IF JOHNSON COUNTY WOULDNT HAVE TRIED TO COME AFTER ME FOR A BOGUS CHARGE THAN CRPD WOULD NOT HAVE COME TO MY HOUSE TO BEAT ME UP ON 5-1-2013. FOR ALL THOSE THAT SAID I WOULD GET WHATS COMING TO ME, SO FAR YOU ARE CORRECT.
