Christ is risen! He is truly risen! Today is the 6th Sunday of Pascha. On this Sunday, the Church reads the Gospel (John 9:1-38) about Jesuss healing of the Man Born Blind. The Disciples ask Jesus if the man sinned, or his parents, so that he was born blind. Jesus answers that his blindness is not the result of sin, it is so that Gods works might be revealed in him. When the religious authorities question the formerly blind man, because he was healed on a Sabbath, they tell him that whoever healed his blindness must be a sinner, because He healed on the Sabbath and they dont know where he came from. The man born blind replies that no matter where someone comes from, if he can give sight to a blind person, he must be from God. Verses 6-7 of Psalm 75 echo this truth: For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up; but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.
