Christian Bale looks ready for battle as filming on Ridley Scotts biblical epic Exodus gets underway in Spain By Colette Fahy It’s an epic undertaking but if pictures from the set of Ridley Scott’s biblical movie Exodus are anything to go by (see below), Christian Bale is up to the task of playing Moses. The 39-year-old actor portrays the lead character in the new movie, which follows the classic tale of the Israelites departure from Egypt under the guidance of Moses. An incredible set has been built in Almeria, Spain to depict ancient Egypt and the detail the director and his crew have gone into is nothing short of phenomenal. Shooting is mainly set in the Sierra Alhamilla mountain range in the province of Almeria, which is situated in the southeast of Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. Filming began in Spain on Tuesday after a few days in England and Bale was already sporting a full beard for his role as the prophet. Dressed in traditional clothing, he carried a bow and arrow which he was seen shooting. Scott has been planning the project for a while, but things fell into place earlier this year when Steve Zaillian signed on to rewrite Adam Cooper and Bill Collages original draft. Peter Chernin, who bought the project as a pitch, will act as producer alongside Prometheus helmer Scott. While shooting in Spain will go on until December, it is also expected to move to Morocco at some stage. Exodus is one of two Moses films in development, alongside Gods and Kings, which Steven Spielberg previously dropped out of directing. Bale isn’t the only star signed up for the film, although no other big names were spotted on set on Tuesday. Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul will play the role of the Hebrew slave Joshua, who goes on to lead the people onto the promised land after Moses. Joel Edgerton, last seen on the big screen in The Great Gatsby, will play Ramses, the pharaoh who is believed to have ruled over Egypt during Moses’ time. In the movie, he pursues Moses and the Hebrews as they make their escape from Egypt. Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed to play the mother of the Ramses, while John Turturro is set to play Seti, his father. Weaver is an old partner of Scotts, having starred as the sharp-witted warrant officer Ellen Ripley the 1979 sci-fi classic Aliens. Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley, who portrayed the Hebrew hero Moses in a 1995 TV adaptation of the Old Testament story, joined the cast as a Hebrew scholar earlier this year. Exodus is slated for release on December 12, 2014, though that could be subject to change. Source: Daily Mail
