Christmas Eve is a bad night for a flat tire--- caused by a spike through the tread-- especially when you are 50 miles from home. No one repairs tires on Christmas Eve. No one rents cars that night. But we found a nice tow truck operator and later an interesting and chatty taxi driver. Both were cheerful and wished us a Merry Christmas. Our family friends (Sandy, Daphne, Auntie Jayne and Uncle Tuck of the original Joy Luck Club) were nearby and offered us use of a car so that we could still make it to our family Christmas Eve dinner in San Francisco.
