Christmas Eve – Christmas Day - Boxing Day 2014 This was our last chance to purchase each other a Christmas gift – having been advised by the locals that the store “Your Habitat” off Argyle St in the city was the place to shop - I quietly insisted that we should go into Hobart and park the car in our usual spot – walk up to the shops for our purchases – have a coffee and return to our vans. I loved this store and started contemplating whether Adelaide could successfully accommodate another kitchen gourmet store similar to the General Trader and where to put it! My husband had watched in horror the night before as the pressure cooker seal ruptured and I was almost covered in the contents of the pan. Today was my lucky day - as here in this awesome store we found a replacement – a real special – and one I could not pass up – made in Germany and with two beautiful stainless steel saucepans – at half price! By this time the fourth person in our party had succumbed to the dreaded lurgy that had been accompanying us for the trip thus far. So we set off to find a chemist for medications then food shopping - and then to put our friend to bed with doses of disprin, lemon drinks and throat lozenges. At this stage of the whole game the weather is not traveller friendly and the wind comes from the South Pole I am sure – we have convinced the boys to experiment with the annexes to shelter from the wind. The afternoon included a drive up to Mt Wellington – awesome to say the least but oh so cold! It was a clear but cloudy day and the 360 degree view was spectacular – we were able to locate our van site in the distance towards the top of the Derwent river - the drive down was very steep - one wondered just exactly how it would have been for the men building the road and the stone wall that served as a fence. Dinner included delicious experimental “smoothies” made in the newly purchased Ninja – a Christmas present for the travelling companions to each other. Now my Thermo mix has some serious competition! I found myself doing a thorough critique of this new kitchen juicer and the end product is of the very best I have to say! We now have our own travelling café! Xmas morning breakfast was had in extremely cold and windy conditions and we then set about doing a roast chicken and vegetables after sharing gifts, making calls to family and friends. Lunch was followed by a long drive along the coast to the bottom end at Cygnet and we then turned up the Huon Valley - all in wind and some rain but oh such a beautiful and scenic drive. We had found along the way what looked like a good caravan park in Huonville and we penned it in as one to use in the near future. On arriving home at the caravans I discovered that the top had been left open and it was flooding with quite heavy rain. A quick clean up before I was sprung by you know who and the van was good as dry with the air conditioner running to dry off the excess dampness – then early to a warm bed after more smoothies. Boxing Day was a sleep in for Lesley and the others set off over the bridge to the coastline beyond Bellerive – this was a lovely sunny and warm spot – I spotted a fish café with ice-creams and we indulged before going to the lookout. A passenger liner had docked on its way to Auckland – The Solstice – the coastline was pretty and the skies were blue for a short while allowing us to take photos.
