Christmas Present for all baseball fans. Its only about 7 weeks until spring training, so enjoy this. Watching MLB’s 20 Greatest Games this morning, highlight game 7 of the Altanta/Pirates NLCS. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_National_League_Championship_Series Close game. Bases loaded with the Braves one run down, bottom of the ninth and two outs. Francisco Cabrera at the plate. Slow Sid Bream on second—whom Bobby Cox could have and should have run for with a faster pitcher, as Bream notes. Andy Van Slyke, the Pirates center fielder sees Cabrera hit a hard liner foul to left field stands on two and oh count. Motions Barry Bonds to move in closer, and Van Slyke moves in four steps, since if Cabrera hits a single, Bonds needs to be closer to cut it off and throw to the plate. As Van Slyke notes: Bonds gave me the “international peace sign”. Or as Bob Costas comments the finger. Cabrera then lines a sharp single past short. Bonds has to cover more ground to reach the ball and Bream who had previously scored only once that year from second on a single reaches home with the winning run, just ahead of Bonds’ throw. The camera then shows Van Slyke sitting in center, totally deflated. Barrys caring for the team and the game is once again highlighted.
