Christmas brings an entirely appropriate desire to help people who are less fortunate than ourselves. The question in our minds should always be how we can do this in a way that helps people and doesnt cause harm (e.g., the story in the paper about a woman who allegedly tried to provide a homeless person a hotel room for a night, panicked when that persons friends objected to being left out and then drove through the group, scattering them but ending up in jail. Lone Ranger-ing is rarely a good idea!). Remember that people who are homeless are homeless---nice things to tote about are a bit of a pain, not a blessing. Bus passes, McDonalds or Starbucks gift certificates are valued. South Suburban PADS (sspads.org) is also looking for contributions to support their operations.
