Christmas is One day of the year. Yet the season starts the day after Halloween and continues until new years is over. Thats 2 months... of every year. Thats 1/6 of every year, and therefore 1/6 of my life! Its no wonder Im not in the Christmas Spirit, I still sick of it from last year. It is a nice time of year, but we have to address the complete lunacy of it all. If I spend $1000 a year in gifts and travel expenses, this averages out to $3 per day for every day of my life. And who am I really giving this money to? Corporations and Government, not the people I love. The tax portion of that $3 is 34 cents per day! Also due to income tax we need to earn about $5 per day to get $3. This is the real cost of Christmas. $5 per day for you and I for our entire friggin life. We do it for our own reasons, but the corporations and governments have no shame in manipulating us. Show them you love them, and empty your bank account into the Capitalist Coffers! My approach will change in the following years. This year, however, Im going to aim to buy things where the value will go to my loved ones directly. This means cash cards for things theyll need, food items to be eaten, or items to provide quality entertainment in a social manner. I welcome all feedback on this topic.
