Christmas time is often, for most, a time filled with togetherness and joy. For others however, it can be a period of great and seemingly unrelenting sadness or even desperation. A period when those loved ones unfortunately no longer with us are missed more than ever. In the hope that it may bring even the smallest amount of comfort to the latter, I wanted to post a poem I wrote several years ago now. Please feel free to share it with anyone who you think it may be of benefit to and hopefully together we can help ensure everyone can enjoy this festive season. A Candle That Never Goes Out... Whenever you miss me, Try not to feel sad. For you still have the memories Of the good times that we had. Though you may be thinking, That I have gone away. Just know Im looking down on you, Every night and day. You gave me so much happiness, And I know I gave it back. That is why you should remember me With a smile, a joke or laugh. When we were together, I hated when you cried. So don’t you shed no tears on me. Because I live on inside. Inside you heart, Inside your mind. I will live on and never die. I’ll always be there when you call. You just can’t hear me anymore. I’ll never be too far away If you need me just whisper my name. Just like in life, I showed you love, Now I send it down from up above. I’m in your mind, I’m in your heart That’s why we’ll never be apart. I’m a candle that never goes out. © S. M.
