Chronicles of Captain Lars and Doctor Tara: Part 4 Tara and I have - TopicsExpress

Chronicles of Captain Lars and Doctor Tara: Part 4 Tara and I have made yet another leg of our journey successfully. In my last post we were going to the Liard hot springs. What I did not say was that when Tara looked up the Liard hot springs on the internet the first thing that came up was about a bear mauling that had happened there. I did not want to scare anyone. Anyhow we departed from Fort Nelson after getting a few groceries and headed towards Liard hot springs. We saw our first mountains that still had snow on them. We also saw various wildlife such as goats, black bear, moose, and buffalo. Even though I suppose I could be considered a tourist in this situation I do have to vent a little about tourist. A caravan of three motorhomes filled with tourist decided that they had to stop in front of us on a 8% slope to take some photos of some mountain. goats. In the mean time I had a fully loaded semi-tanker barreling in behind me. I was a few seconds away from driving into the little bit of ditch I had. I do have to say as much as I was frustrated I am sure the truck driver was twice as mad. On the way to the hot springs we stopped at Muncho Lake to eat lunch and take some pictures. The lake was a beautiful aqua blue color. Because we were eating lunch in a camp site we accidently caused a miniature traffic jam between a 40 some foot camper with a jeep behind it and a pickup with a fifth wheel camper. With a little traffic directing on my behalf everything turned out alright. Next we moved onto the hot springs. We got to our campsite alright and proceeded up to the hot springs to take a dip. On the board walk to the springs we spotted a bull moose about 40 yards from the trail that was a huge attraction for those who had not seen a moose. Basically the whole camp site was snapping photos. We took a dip in the springs and it was HOT!!! not cool when it is 86 degrees out. Wish I had a cold springs instead. By the time we started back down to the campsite the moose had decided that he wanted to stand on the boardwalk. Got about 30 feet from him before a worker scared him away with a golf cart. Once we got back to the campsite we decided to have dinner. We went to eat our dinner but as soon as we open the salad that we had purchased earlier we realized that we had nothing to eat it with. In our hast to resolve the traffic jam at Mucho lake we threw our forks away. We had to settle for just brauts. As we went to bed I am certain that the thoughts of bears were in both of our heads. I woke up frequently watching for bears and Tara told me at one point she almost woke me up because there was a huge bear outside the tent. This huge bear turned out to be a squirrel in the long run. Ultimately the only thing we had to worry about was the damn dog that someone had that kept barking all night. After coffee (thanks Jamie for the French press we used for the first time) and breakfast we had an almost uneventful trip minus a few quick stops for photo ops we are now in Whitehoarse where we will remain till our trip to Juneau on the ferry on Thursday.
