Chuck Hagel was one of my favorite Senators, but this just shows how ridiculous our love of relentlessly building up the military has gotten. We wouldnt be ready for a major conflict with... who? Iran, who uses 30 year old Jets? Russia, who we still outspend by over 8x? Maybe China, who has zero reason economically to go to war with us, and even though were outnumbered them by quadruple, we outspent by over 3x? Wanna know why the government is in such deep debt? Stop blaming politicians for social policies which have very little to do with the national debt. Blame nearly every politician and both parties for creating a system and a mentality that continues to allow the military to get bigger and bigger every year with very little oversight.
