Chughtais Lahore Lab has a long history of excellence in Histopathology. The department of Histopathology is staffed by 5 consultant and 3 resident pathologists. Biopsies Chughtais Lahore Lab receives biopsy specimens from all over Pakistan. Specimens ar transported to Lahore in sealed containers with 10% buffered formalin. The specimens are grossed by resident pathologists under consultant supervision.Most biopsies are reported within 3 days.Unusual and challenging cases are signed out after discussion on multi-head microscope. Unexpected or urgent reports are communicated to the referring physician directly by the pathologists.The department signs out more than 12,000 biopsies every year. Immunostains Immunohistochemical markers are often needed in the diagnostic workup of biopsies. Chughtais Lahore Lab has a menu of more than 50 immuno markers which are used to diagnose tumors and detect infectious organisms. Prognostic Markers Chughtais Lahore Lab performs immunohistochemical stains for Estrogen Receptors, Progesterone Receptors and Her-2/Neu overexpression. The results of these stains are used to choose the best course of therapy for breast cancer patients. In addition, Chughtias Lahore Lab also performed FISH analysis for Her-2 gene amplificaiton. This is the most senstitive test to determine Her-2 gene status in breast cancer patients. Cytopatholgy Chughtais Lahore Lab reports more than 1000 FNAC and 2000 Pap Smears every year. FNAC procedures are performed by consultant pathologist.
