Church - An Attitude, Not an Event Unfortunately we find ourselves living in a Post-Christian Era. For the first time in our history we have a generation coming up that does not consider church a value worth pursuing or possessing. Every previous generation perceived church as something good, something positive. It is just indicative of the Post Christian Era that we now live in. The Bible did predict that this is what we would see in the last days, but it does not make it any easier to swallow. But what about authentic Christians living in these last days when the world is shunning our heart-felt values and way of life. Church in this last day context should, for the believer, become more critical and cherished. The writer of Hebrews writes something that is directly applicable to our context today. Listen: And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works: NOT FORSAKING the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some (in this Post Christian Era) is; but EXHORTING one another: and SO MUCH MORE as you see the day approaching Heb.10:24-25 As we walk through this world today with all the hostilities against the Christian faith, it is like living in the lions den. All the more critical church becomes in this context where we who are of like faith come together to encourage one another, love one another, support one another because we are starting to feel the pressure of being an unwanted dynamic in a world that has kicked God out of our schools, our courtroom, and the market place. In our world today there is no room for Him in the Inn. So, today, we as believers should live with the attitude that church is not just an event where we gather together as we should, but an attitude, an awarness of what Jesus said. Wherever two or three gather there I am in the midst in essence. When we go to church, one of the main reasons we go is to come face to face with the Lord of Glory, our Creator God. And from that encounter we draw grace and strength from the One we meet and engage. When we go to church we have a heightened awareness of the Presence of God. We come with great anticipation to see Him, not just so we can feel good, but because we NEED Him, we need His strength, His wisdom, His direction and leading. Now, the premise of my post. The attitude with which we come to church should be the attitude with which we live our life, namely to walk through life, to move through life with an AWARENESS of His Presence. Listen to Pauls words here: But the righteousness which is of faith speaks on this wise, Say not in your heart, Who shall ascend in heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring Christ up again from the dead) But what does it say? The Word is NEAR YOU, even in your mouth, and in your heart: that is the Word of faith which we preach. Rom.10:6-8 So, church is not an event, but rather an attitude, an awareness of the Lord of Glory!
