Cinema en temps de Guerra Yesterday I was kindly invited to watch the new Catalan film, Cinema en temps de Guerra by Magi Crusells, who wrote the excellent book, Las Brigadas Internacionals en la pantalla. It was a wonderful study of the Catalan anarchist Laya Films and Film Popular propaganda Film companies set up by the Catalan Generalitat during the Spanish Civil War. Over 350 films were produced, of which only a fraction have survived. Mention was also made in the film of the international output of the weekly newsreels Espana al Dia in English. Many of you will have seen the version in English of the withdrawal of the International Brigades from Barcelona on October 28th 1938 on this page, but here is another one in English (of only two that have survived) of the Jarama Front to watch.
