(Cinet)- Non Nuoc Carving Village which makes a stone carving work was recoginized as an intangible national heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on May 24. The village was founded in the late 17th century, and has survived the changes of time while preserving its reputation. The village was initially established in the late 18th century by Huynh Ba Quat, a craftsman from Thanh Hoa Province, and local people have earned their living from stone carving here since the 19th century.The present Non Nuoc Stone Sculpture Village is located in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District. Currently, there are about 500 manufacturing facilities, with nearly 4,000 workers, mostly located in the Marble Mountains. The village is famous for stone statues, especially representing animals of the zodiac.70% of the products are sold right at the manufacturing sites, while the rest are domestic and overseas orders. In 2013, the income of Non Nuoc Village reached VND400 billion (USD19 million). In 2006, Sculpture Traditional Craft Association named Non Nuoc – Ngu Hanh Son was established with a participation of over 150 members. In particular, 03 members of the village association including Le Ben, Nguyen Viet Min and Nguyen Long Buu are recognize as meterious artists. In April, the People’s Committee of Danang City set up a council to create a dossier for Non Nuoc Village, requesting that the village to be recognised as a traditional village. It was nominated to become a heritage because it met all major requirements, such as reflection of cultural diversity and creativity and has a craft handed down through generations and likely to continue for a long time. Today, some main products in the village are sold for some visitors in Ngu Hanh Son landscape.
