Circling the Square with Myrna Fearer (Danvers Herald) 3/13/14 If you haven’t seen the latest Douglass Appliance commercial than you don’t know about the newest Rock Star. Well, he may not be a Rock Star exactly; he’s more like a terrific technician. I’m talking about Lloyd Douglass. In the previous commercial, Lloyd would discuss the situation with the appliance owner, and then you would see them wave goodbye as he walked down the driveway to his truck leaving another satisfied customer. *** This commercial has the same lovely lady (I’ll confess, it’s the beautiful Patty Jones of the Step into Learning preschool). Patty is saying to Brittany Raesly, owner of Daily Harvest, Brittany, do you know who that is? And when Brittany asks if it’s someone famous or something, Patty answers, Are you kidding. He’s the only one I would trust to fix my appliances. At least, without writing down the words at the same time I watched the commercial, that’s just about the gist of that part of the dialogue. However, the commercial manages to include just about the entire Douglass family whether in the front of the store or behind the scenes. That is amazing to me but it is very effective. And, of course, they’ve kept in where the extra S stands for service. I’ve always loved that. Anyway, even though there’s nothing in the commercial that specifically calls Lloyd a rock star, somehow I’ve come away from watching it with that impression. Let’s face it, Lloyd is now more famous than ever. Is there a Maytag man role out there in TV land just waiting for our Lloyd?
