City Street Crews Dig Into History You’re invited! TOPEKA, Kan. – History will come to life downtown as City of Topeka street crews dig up history at 1 p.m. Monday, September 16, at 8th & Kansas Avenue, in front of Westar. Crews will excavate a 12x12 ft. square of the roadway, near the median on Kansas Avenue. Excavation starts late morning, and should reveal a stretch of trolley track that passersby can see from the sidewalk. This excavation is a preliminary step in the Kansas Avenue reconstruction project. It will allow Bartlett & West to examine and measure the track to determine how the track will impact utility line installation. From 1 to 2 p.m., visitors will experience a time when trolley transportation was vital to downtown Topeka. On site, you’ll meet history experts and project engineers, along with historic characters, vintage vehicles, classic music, and more. No formal presentation is scheduled, come and go as you please!
