City of Redmond Update on Downtown Frontier Service Outage [PRESS RELEASE] A construction crew accidently cut through Frontier Communications’ fiber and copper cables on Saturday, September 20. Frontier Communications’ FiOS, phone, television and internet services as well as Redmond’s 911 services were disrupted. As of today, Frontier reports that they are working around the clock to repair a total of 9 cables in order to restore service to over 1,200 customers. Rain has caused complications with regards to restoration of Redmond’s radio dispatch, but Redmond’s 911 is operating at full capacity. Four satellite dishes along with radio antennas were installed yesterday afternoon to increase the downtown coverage. Some commercial customers have been temporarily moved to FiOS or Satellite Broadband service to minimize impact on their businesses. Frontier has also deployed a Wi-Fi network in downtown Redmond so businesses and individuals can access the internet while further repair is underway. Splicing of copper cables continues in the field and progress is being made. However, customers on copper service lines may have to wait as long as September 30 for restored service. Customers affected by the outage do not need to call Frontier to receive out-of-service credits. Frontier’s credit process will be automatic. They will be applying credits based on service level and number of days without service. These credits will be applied within 30 days of the end of the outage event. Customers will see the credit on the subsequent bill and Frontier has already mailed letters to affected customers informing them of the restoration and credit process. City of Redmond Public Works Director Linda De Boldt stated the assignment of responsibility is pending a thorough investigation. The City is working with Frontier as well as the contractor to develop and decide upon a claims process, which will be shared with the community as soon as possible. To track the progress of restoration or for questions regarding this outage, you can call Frontier’s new local Redmond Customer Service line at 800-922-1492 or read updates at outage.frontier/Redmond-2014-09-20
