Six, including the City of Santa Fe, receive Piñon Recognition and 3 received Roadrunner Recognition. “I’m delighted to announce the 2014 New Mexico Performance Excellence Recognition Recipients” said Julia Gabaldon, President/CEO of Quality New Mexico. “These organizations are striving for world class excellence and providing the best service to their customers. We are very proud of them and I encourage organizations in every sector to follow their lead.” City Manager Brian Snyder said, “We’re obviously very excited, but this is just a step on the road to ensuring our city provides the best possible customer service experience to our citizens. Our more than 1,500 employees do a wide range of work to make our city better every day. We ask a lot of them, and we’re proud they’ve earned this recognition,” In addition to formal recognition, the NMPEA’s multi‐tiered process assists New Mexico organizations along their path to achieving performance excellence, which means being role models in customer and employee satisfaction, sound management, innovation, and results. Councilor Joseph Maestas said, “Quality New Mexico is a strong organization with a reputation for doing good work. We’ve already learned a lot from this process, and we’re eager to continuing to grow and get better in the many different ways our employees serve this community.” He added, This award represents a true baseline assessment of our city government based on the Baldridge Quality Criteria and will help transform our government to effectively manage its performance and prepare it to meet the future needs of our community. Piñon and Roadrunner Recognitions are ‘steps’ to achieving the pinnacle of performance and earning the NMPEA’s prestigious Zia Award. Mayor Javier Gonzales says he’s looking forward to the ongoing feedback process. “Politicians come and go. This city’s excellence is built on a foundation of hard-working city employees whose work behind the scenes makes this city run. We’re grateful to them, and we’re excited about working together with Quality New Mexico to continue our growth.” New Mexico organizations that want, and are open to, feedback on their overall performance submit a self‐assessment to the program for an in‐depth review, site visit, and written feedback from a team of volunteer Examiners. Modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, QNM’s process is based on the time‐tested Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence® which provides a framework and criteria to guide improved performance.
