To detailed information and to apply online, click on calopps.org MONTHLY SALARIES: Sr. Building Maintenance Custodian: $3,520.40 - $4,281.33 Building Maintenance Custodian: $3,198.00 - $3,887.87 THE DEPARTMENT: The Parks and Recreation Department is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. In addition, there are a group of affiliated organizations that operate out of City facilities and park locations. These activities are co-sponsored by the Department, but are not staffed or supervised by City personnel. The Parks and Recreation is composed of a Director and 13 full-time management staff. The department is comprised of the Recreation & Community Services, Parks Maintenance, and Facilities Divisions. The Division of Parks and Facilities Maintenance maintains 23 facilities totaling more than 490,000 square feet and over 200 acres of park land. IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate is self-motivated, a team player, energetic and enthusiastic, and can effectively and safely perform semi-skilled building maintenance tasks. Must be able to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas, follow written and verbal instructions, and be familiar with methods, materials, and equipment used in the janitorial maintenance of public buildings and facilities. QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical qualifying background would be: EXPERIENCE: Sr. BMC requires two years of progressively more responsible experience in janitorial work and building maintenance. This classification differs from the next lower-level classification in that it requires the ability to make minor repairs to City Buildings, in addition to performing custodial duties. BMC requires one year of janitorial experience and is the experiences, entry-level classification in the building maintenance series. TRAINING/EDUCATION for both Sr. BMC & BMC: Equivalent to graduation from high school. LICENSES: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. SELECTION PROCESS: The process will first consist of a review of application materials and applicants responses to the supplemental questionnaire. The highly suitable and most qualified applicants will be invited to a Written Exam (pass/fail). Candidates who pass the Written Exam will be invited back for a Performance Examination (weighted at 100%). Upon completion of this Performance Examination, eligible employment lists will be established which will be used for the appointment to the position. Possession of minimal qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the selection process and placement on the eligible employment list. Top ranking candidates placed on the eligible lists will be invited to the next phase of the selection process which will be an oral interview.
