Civil/Structural Engineering Designer (Houston) Company Profile Multi-Discipline engineering and Architecture private consultant providing design services for residential and commercial development is seeking to add to its Civil and Structural Engineering Teams. Position Summary This position requires thorough knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniques. This individual is responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Will devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, and accepted engineering practices. Job Functions • Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria; • Conduct structural calculations, specifications and reports. • Maintain the technical quality and consistency of work, including compliance with project design criteria and standards, project procedures, relevant corporate standards, and local codes and regulations; • Devise new approaches to technical problems; • Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews; • Coordinate assigned engineering work and interface with other organizations, contractors, consultants and clients, as well as outside permitting agencies as assigned; • Maintain procedures and ensure that designs comply with codes and regulations; • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications. Position Qualification Requirements Educational Requirements • Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural, or related field of Engineering required. Experience Requirements • Minimum three (3) years of experience. Skills and Abilities • Must be knowledgeable of and perform standard discipline engineering activities on projects of small to medium size and complexity with minimal technical oversight; • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project), AutoCAD, structural engineering software, drafting techniques and structural engineering terminology; • Ability to prepare clear, complete, and accurate work plans and detail drawings, as well as detail drawings, sketches, and diagrams necessary for construction documents; • Commitment to excellence and high standards; • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities; • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines; • Ability to direct and recommend cost-effective creative solutions; • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude with ability to complete structural analysis and calculations; • Prior experience with residential projects is highly preferred; • Occasional fieldwork (inspections). Must be able to work for any employer in the US. License(s)/Certification(s) Required • EIT or commitment to pass the FE exam; • Licensed PE is not a requirement.
