Clara Barton: recycling building materials before it was cool. Check out this very nice post from our friends and neighbors at the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park! It discusses how building materials used during the Johnstown Flood relief efforts, led by Barton and the American Red Cross, were eventually transported via the C&O Canal to be used in the construction of an all-in-one building in Glen Echo, MD: a warehouse, first permanent headquarters for the ARC, and Bartons home. Not only are we neighbors, but as this post explains, we have a connected history that will forever link our two parks.
