Classmate from ???? Johnie E Smack April 13 1955 June 2 2008 Johnie E. Smack Johnie E. Smack, 53, of Beaver Dam, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Visitation will be at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, on Friday, June 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. A service celebrating Johnies life will follow at the funeral home on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. with John Burgbacher officiating. Military honors will be provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146, at the funeral home on Friday, at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow. Johnie E. Smack was born on April 13, 1955, in Lewes, Del., to Albert and Doris (Wade) Smack. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the 82nd Airborne Division. On May 30, 1981, Johnie was united in marriage with Dawn Oppermann in Ridge Manor, Fla. In 1982, he began working at Alliance Laundry in Ripon and he also bartended at Rough Cut Saloon in Coloma; he loved to socialize with the customers. Johnies hobbies were camping, deer hunting and fishing. He dabbled in mechanical jobs and electrical work but he was best at being a father, grandfather, husband and friend. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Smack, Beaver Dam; four children, Kevin (Melissa) Price, Brodhead, Jim Smack, Cedar Springs, Mich., Angela Smack, Beaver Dam, and Tammy (Nick) Batchelder, Beaver Dam; eight grandchildren, Brayden, Ariel, Paige, Shawn, Isaiah, Riese, Hailey, and Michaela; his brother and sisters, Joan (Bill) Millman, Cece Leffett, Terry (Jackie) Smack and Nancy (Billy Ray) Jenkins; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Barnard and Carol Oppermann, Waupun; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas Oppermann, David (Dominique) Oppermann, Deb Oppermann, Sue Hembrook, Ken (Catie) Oppermann and Brian (Karie) Oppermann; his special friend, Dave (Vicky) Peachey; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Johnie was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, a nephew and a sister-in-law. The family suggests that memorials be made in Johnie Smacks name to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or Paul Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center at UW Hospital, 600 N Highland Ave. in Madison. Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is caring for the family.
