Classy Boland yearlings on offer at KZN Sale Eugene Freeman’s Boland Stud has a strong and attractive group of yearlings bound for this year’s KZN Yearling Sale. Boland are proud to offer 13 yearlings at the KZN Sale, and the Stud are also consigning four yearlings as agent. The first of the Boland yearlings to come under the hammer is lot 5, a filly by Breeders Cup Mile winner and Eclipse Champion, Miesque’s Approval. The filly, a half-sister to a winner in North America, is out of a mare by champion sprinter and leading sire Cadeaux Genereux (damsire of champion sprinter Dream Ahead). This is a tremendous international family, whose members include no less an equine celebrity than unbeaten Epsom Derby winner Golden Fleece and champion sire Be My Guest. Lot 11 is bound to prove popular, as this colt is the only yearling on sale by leading sire Captain Al, whose 2yo sons Captain Of All and Captain’s Reserve ran 1-3 in the recent Gr1 Tsogo Sun Medallion. He is out of a Jallad full sister to G1 winner Talahatchie, and this is also the family of high-class international performer Lizarre, who ran fourth in the recent Gr1 Singapore International Cup. Boland Stud consign (as Agent) lot 45 – a colt whose sire, dam and damsire were all G1 winning juveniles! The colt is by former Equus Champion 2yo Argonaut, who lost just once during his career, and won both the Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes and Gr1 Golden Horseshoe. This unnamed bay is out of the former Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Readallaboutit, a daughter of former G1 Middle Park Stakes hero Gallic League and the six times stakes winner Headline. This colt is bred on the same Gone West/Welsh Saint cross responsible for the dual Breeders Cup Mile hero Da Hoss. The latter put up one of the greatest performances of all time in the 1998 Breeders Cup Mile when winning the race off a single prep following two years out of racing! Argonaut is the sire of the promising 2yo Copybook, who won impressively at Scottsville recently. Lot 76 is, without question, one of the best bred fillies on sale. The unnamed chestnut is the only Jet Master yearling on sale, and represents one of the very last opportunities to acquire offspring of the former six times champion sire. A half-sister to a winner, the filly is out of a mare by red hot broodmare sire National Assembly (dam sire of top 3yo Vercingetorix). Her second dam is the dam of 2 stakes horses, and is also the second dam of the July placed Eton Square. This is the great Soho Secret family, which has produced such champions as London News, Pluck, Kings Gambit and Promisefrommyheart. Lot 86 is a really well bred son of Argonaut, one of the great Western Winter’s very best sons. This chestnut is out of the outstanding broodmare Splash Of Water, and is a half-brother to seven winners. Among these, are the stakes winners Splash Gold (Gr2 Merchants) and Captain’s Cove (Lady’s Pendant). Splash of Water is also the dam of the stakes placed winner of eight Renegade, and is the damsire of exciting 2yo, and recent Gr3 Cape of Good Hope Nursery winner, Flash Drive. This is the magnificent Sister Sublime family, which has excelled in South Africa for many generations. Exciting young sire Ashaawes, sire of three black type horses in his first small crop, is the sire of lot 87. The colt, a half-brother to 5 winners, is out of a mare by champion broodmare sire Northern Guest, damsire of such champions as Pomodoro and J J The Jet Plane. Second dam is the lightning fast Blushing Star, winner of the Gr1 Computaform Sprint. Kahal has an excellent record as a sire of high-class fillies, which makes lot 97 an exciting prospect. This filly is out of the G1 SA Fillies Guineas placed mare, The Daydream, and hails from the wonderful family responsible for Horse Of the Year Dynasty, himself now one of the country’s top sires. One for the notebook! Former Equus Champion Rebel King is looking to continue National Assembly’s great legacy. The champion sprinter, who has made an excellent beginning with his first crop of 2yos, is sire of lot 122. A chestnut like her sire, this filly is a half-sister to five winners. Her dam, by broodmare sire great Northern Guest, is an own sister to G1 SA Derby and ARCSA champion Travel North. This is an interesting mixture of precious speed and classic stamina. Lot 141 is a colt by Western Winter’s champion son Argonaut out of a winning Southern Halo mare is another from the draft which catches the eye. His second dam is the outstanding race mare Faralmond, who was ARCSA Champion Older Female in 1996. Southern Halo is one of the world’s greatest broodmare sires, with his daughters having produced a staggering 33 individual G1 winners! They include multiple Gr1 winners Eclipse West and Guernika, as well US Gr1 winner Miss Match. Lot 161 is a filly by the beautifully bred Mullins Bay, sire of unbeaten filly Tinchy Stryder (who conquered the talented Blueridge Mountain). She is a out of a winning sister to the G2 filly Hellhathnofury, and hails from the family of Gr1 winners Highborn (Premier’s Champion Stakes) and Angus (J&B Met). Red Ransom horse Slew The Red is the sire of lot 156, a colt who hails from the family of the greatest locally bred stallion in South Africa’s history. This unnamed bay, a half-brother to 2 winners, is out of a Fort Wood half-sister to Horse of the Year and SA’s dominant sire, Jet Master. This is also the family of current star 3yo Festival of Fire, winner of the recent KRA Guineas. There will should be plenty of interest in the Judpot filly (lot 200), whose sire has made a sensational start to his stud career. Kingmambo’s half-brother’s first crop has already produced unbeaten Gr2 winner Colour of Courage as well as Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship runner up Along Came Polly. This filly, out of a four time winner, is a half-sister to a stakes placed winner. This is the great Best In Show family, responsible for such superstars as El Gran Senor, Rags to Riches, Redoute’s Choice, and G1 winner and promising sire Thewayyouare. The latter, now a promising sire, is a son of Judpot’s half-brother Kingmambo. Mambo In Seattle is an exceptionally bred stallion, being a son of Kingmambo out of a sister to champion sire A P Indy. He is the sire of lot 212, a half-sister to four time winner, Faith of London. The filly’s dam is by leading broodmare sire Jallad, whose daughters have produced such recent Gr1 winners as Martial Eagle (J&B Met) and Shea Shea (Al Quoz Sprint). The filly’s dam is an own sister to the G1 filly Truthofthematter, and a three parts sister to Equus Champion Succesful Bidder. Ashaawes has made a very promising start to his stud career, and Boland Stud are offering a filly (lot 223) by the son of Kingmambo. This filly is a half-sister to 2 winners, and her dam won five races. This is the family of July winning champion Spanish Galliard, as well as the multiple Gr1 winner Forest Path. Silvano is South Africa’s leading sire by earnings this season. The sire of unbeaten G1 winning filly Happy Valentine is the sire of lot 245, a filly out of the Goldmark mare, Goldante. The filly is a half-sister to five winners, including the smart G3 placed juvenile Qui Success. Goldante herself won three, and this is the family of numerous champions and G1 winners, including South Vagabunda – champion 2yo filly in Argentina in 2002-2003. Champion Rebel King, whose sire, National Emblem, is the sire of the Royal Ascot bound Shea Shea, is responsible for lot 246. This colt (bred on the same National Emblem/Model Man nick as G1 winner National Spirit) is out of a half-sister to Gr3 filly Qui Success, and hails from a prolific G1 producing family. Lot 290 is from the first crop of world-class sprinter King’s Apostle (bred on the potent Kingmambo/Sadler’s Wells cross). This filly is a half-sister to 8 winners, including the stakes filly Voice of Africa, and her second dam is the high-class juvenile Ritzi Mitzi. This is the family of the high-class stakes winners, Canadian Sunset, Captain In Command, and Reconcile. The draft can be found at block c, and all visitors are most welcome!
