Clauses I love law but guess I would have been a lousy lawyer so I didn’t pursue it ☺ Legal Agreement contains beautiful words with which you plead your case or with which you know what is rightfully yours. Who gets a contract, chooses to do selective reading then signs? Do you? Many of us do selective reading of the bible. I think that the bible is some sort of contractual document; it is binding on both parties. There is a ‘YOU’ part and there is a ‘GOD’ part. But guess what we do? Many of us don’t do our ‘YOU’ part and we demand God to fulfill His ‘GOD’ part. We selectively choose phrases; for example, Matthew 11:28-30 says that, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (This is where many people stop but please read on)Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” In this contractual clause, our responsibilities are as follows: we are to go to God when we are burdened; we are to dump our yoke at His feet but take His yoke in replacement; and, we are to learn of Him. God’s part is to then give us rest. We are to learn of Him. 2Timothy 2:15 says, ‘study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’ After studying God’s word, we are to DO the word. James 1:22 tells us that, ‘But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.’So where is the gap? God does not move the post. If anyone falters, I assure you that it is not God. The gap is always created from our part. We do not do our contractual bit. What will it take us to get serious with knowing the person of JESUS CHRIST? What will it take us to understand our contractual obligation? Many of us don’t know the Giver but we want the gift. Imagine that you wish to travel to America for the first time. You don’t bother to study to find out about the VISA process and you walk straight to the embassy. What do you think will happen to you especially if you are resident in a developing economy? That is exactly how we treat God. We don’t know the visa process to the throne room yet we make demands. (There is however a place of mercy just like rain that falls on both good and evil). If you want crumbs, continue with the way your relationship is with God. But if you want the real deal, get into the contract! Make a commitment to get to know God. Get to know your contractual obligations in the word. Get to know His word. SEEK HIM.
