‘Clear power line areas to prevent brownouts’ SAN JOSE, Antique — Antiqueños were urged to help clear power line areas to prevent unnecessary power interruptions. Objects touching the power lines — tree branches, for example — can cause power interruption, especially during heavy rains and strong winds, Engr. Ludovico Lim, Antique Electric Cooperative (ANTECO) manager, explained. Lim said the cooperative has been regularly checking the power lines to ensure the continuous transmission of electricity. Some households, however, refuse to cooperate with the clearing operations, he stressed. Lim said the ANTECO regularly maintains the power lines. It has all the needed supplies and materials in case they need to be replaced. Problems commonly occur with the duplex wires — the connection from the post to the households — especially when these were not properly supported by a sturdy post, he said. Member-consumers were enjoined to report to ANTECO any tangled power lines near them. Lim said their linemen were ready to fix power line problems even at night. Meanwhile, the coop manager assured their 77,245 member-consumers that their power supply remains stable. ANTECO’s power supply requirement was covered by contracts with suppliers. Antiqueños have nothing to worry about except when transmission lines (Leyte–Negros Island–Panay) encounter trouble, he said. In terms of power rate adjustments, ANTECO’s rate depends on generation and transmission charges from suppliers, said Lim. (PIA–Antique/PN) ~angel~
