Clearing out my email inbox (still) and I ran across a link to one of my favourite YouTube videos of all time. I know almost nothing about this video and its circumstances nor much about New Zealand or Māori culture, so everything I say here is just what I understand to be going on. The Haka is a traditional Māori warrior dance, made famous by some of the New Zealand sports teams, with a deep history. This video shows a group of New Zealand servicemen , dancing and chanting a Haka for their fallen comrade. I love so much about this video: the raw intensity, the clear participation of men of both Māori and white descent, and the respect that appears to be being shown between the rituals of the (Catholic?) priest and the men who offer the Haka. Its very worth the watch. https://youtube/watch?v=xI6TRTBZUMM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
