Environmental Platform: Climate Change According to NRDC, The Natural Resource Defense Council website, Global warming is the single biggest environmental and humanitarian crisis of our time. Global warming occurs when Carbon Dioxide is released into the air by the burning of coal, oil, and natural gases like methane; also classified as greenhouse gases. The Earths atmosphere is overloaded with heat-trapping carbon dioxide CFCs and other pollutants which threaten large-scale disruptions in our climate with disastrous consequences. We must act now to spur the adoption of cleaner energy sources at home and abroad. Just to mention a few grim effects of global warming; death by heat stroke, shortage of water and food produced, mosquito and tick-borne infectious diseases being spread widely, and not forgetting the intensified storm surges, horrendous hurricanes and the melting polar ice caps resulting in rising sea levels damaging our coastal lines. What can we do? To adapt and help curb global warming, there are lots of things you, your family, and your friends can do each day to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: -Turn off the lights when you leave a room. -Turn off your electronic devices when youre not using them. -Drive less. Vehicles emit CO2 gases so instead, walk, ride your bike, or use public transportation when you can. - Conserve Water -When you cut a tree, plant another, trees help regulate the emissions of CO2 gases. - Substitute chemical cleaners with organic cleaning products; for example did you know that you can use water and vinegar as a disinfecting agent? The impact of global warming can no longer be ignored. My life, your life and our children’s lives depend on us; Reduce, reuse and recycle.
