Also note that the polygon representing Gaza is somewhat misleading, as Israel has established an expanded buffer zone about 3 kilometers wide on the border which they have demanded that Palestinians evacuate or risk being bombed or shot at. Which is important, because Gaza is only about 5-6 kilometers wide in some areas, so this buffer zone is actually 44% of the land area of the Gaza Strip, including some heavily populated areas and parts of Gaza City. Also note that the population of the Gaza Strip is over 1.8 million, about triple that of Winnipeg, though a direct comparison doesnt quite give the full extent of the overcrowding because the Gaza Strip is not just one big city, there are actually several cities (including the Jabalia refugee camp with over 90,000 refugees).and some farmland in there as well. So, not only is Gaza City is one of the most overcrowded cities in the world, but the siege constrains the ability of the people there to construct new homes to accommodate population growth.
