Clint salt glaze coiled rattlesnake from the 2009 firing. Truly - TopicsExpress

Clint salt glaze coiled rattlesnake from the 2009 firing. Truly remarkable piece of his pottery. One-of-a-kind piece from the salt glaze firing. The clay is swirled is one unique feature-his first swirl was done for the SG firing. He has made only a few swirl pieces since. Theres cobalt & metallic/manganese decoration and some neat drips on the snake, including one top of the head. Love all those details, but there are also aspects such as the neat tail. The snake is 10.5 by 9 by 4. It is marked Salt Glaze and Last Firing at Hartwell on the base. The salt glaze firing was, per Clint, the first in GA, in 80 years. It destroyed his existing alkaline kiln with the salt (i.e. it would always have to be salt glaze post) Then he took it down and rebuilt the kiln at the house he bought in Demorest/Clarksville. There are some firelines/cracks, but overall for a thick piece like this formed w/ no hole, very acceptable. Re: other examples, he has made very few coiled snakes that are free-standing like this. They are almost wrapping around something else. Maybe 3-5 total or so that have some aspect of this form. Local pickup or dropoff is preferable, although we would be willing to triple box this true masterpiece if absolutely necessary. Please ms if interested.
