Cloud Atlas… a movie that got no Oscars and very little attention after it was released. I just saw it last night and WOW. Instantly one of my top-10 favorite movies. I actually watched the first hour twice just to see all the detail and Ill have to watch it all again some time soon. The three directors (the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer) adapted it perfectly. It seems like it COULD have been confusing (what with six stories going on simultaneously) but it never was, because the script is a masterpiece. The visuals were beyond brilliant, the acting was perfect, the score, makeup, effects, editing - it all came together flawlessly. And its SO ENTERTAINING. Its not just a jewel of artistic perfection. Its rousing, funny, moving, with accomplished romance and action and comedy interweaving like a symphony, which of course is the central metaphor of the movie. If you havent seen it for whatever reason, give it a try. 172 minutes has never gone by so quickly!
