Cloud coming of Jesus explained. Daniel 7:13-14“I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with THE CLOUDS of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. 14 “And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every [l]language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed. Mt 26:64 Jesus *said to him, “You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on THE CLOUDS of heaven.” Rev 1:7 Behold, He is coming with THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in THE CLOUDS of heaven with power and great glory. All four of these texts are the same. Jesus tells Caiaphas he would see the son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. Caiaphas reaction was that Jesus spoke blasphemy (vs 65). Revelation quotes Daniel 7:13 as yet future, and Jesus said in Mt 24:30 they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power. The question arises from these 3 texts which quote Daniel 7:13, is Jesus saying His second coming will be on the clouds of heaven or is this His ascension? Jesus authority began when He was resurrected: Acts 2:30 And so, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay. Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 1 Corinthians 15:23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, 24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. When Jesus was resurrected, He assumed the throne of David, and all authority was given him, and a kingdom was given to Him (Daniel 7:14) When Jesus has abolished His last enemy Adam sin/death, then He hands over the kingdom to God the Father. What we are seeing in Daniel 7:13 is Jesus ascension up to the Ancient of days, and when Jesus told Caiaphas that he would see Jesus coming on the clouds of heaven, Caiaphas new Jesus was claiming to be the fulfillment of Daniel 7:13 when Jesus would receive the kingdom (7:14) and to abolish all of His enemies. Acts 1:9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. 11 They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will COME IN (Daniel 7:13) just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven (on clouds up to the Ancient of days).” Whats missing from all of these verses being tied together is how anyone would know any of this happened: Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven. The SIGN of the Son of man in heaven was not a sword in the sky or a voice heard over Jerusalem near the time of Jerusalems destruction, the SIGN of the Son of man in heaven was the SIGN that Jesus ascended and was given a kingdom and was going to judge the world in righteousness. Jesus was a prophet and prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and its Temple which stood as a sign of the old covenant. When Jesus ascended there was a small group of people who ever knew about it. The preaching of the gospel to every nation under heaven was what would send the truth of the Messiah having come, and a part of that gospel message was His return and the destruction of Jerusalem. His being a prophet, and foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem was the SIGN of the Son of man in heaven. When it happened it proved who He was: Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him. 1) up to the Ancient of Days. There is one recorded time when Jesus on the clouds of heaven went up to the Ancient of days and that was His ascension. Jesus did not in any way come up to the Ancient of days after the second coming, and receive and kingdom (7:14), but rather handed the kingdom back over to the Father. 2) There are multiple cloud comings in the bible. Joel 2:2, Nahum 1:3, Zephaniah 1:15. Matthew 24:30 is not one of these cloud comings. 3) Jesus second coming in multiple texts; 2 Thessalonians 2:8, 1 Cor 15:23, 1 Thessalonians 2:9, 1 Thessalonians 5:3
