Coaches Workshop A Success PUBLISHED 09:44 11th September 2013 Academy lead the session To further the links with local clubs, Wolves Academy hosted a Coaches Workshop evening last week. 41 coaches attended the session at Compton. The evening focused on the Development of players within the Foundation phase (Age groups from Under 5 to Under 11’s) and included a theory presentation and practical sessions which were delivered on the club’s astroturf by Academy Staff. Academy Manager Gareth Prosser believes it is important that local clubs are aware of the philosophy in place at Wolves Academy, and used the theory presentation to share this information with the coaches about the vision and aims of the Academy. Prosser also spoke to the coaches about the focus and structure of our training sessions for players within this phase. Prosser was joined in the delivery of the practical sessions by Marc Campbell (Lead Foundation Phase Coach) and Dan Bolas. He says: “Throughout the sessions, there was good interaction with the coaches, with lots of questions asked and discussions about various situations they deal with at their own clubs. “Our Under 10’s took part in the practical demonstrations and their attitude and quality shown on the evening was excellent. They were a credit to the academy. “The evening gave us chance to speak on a one on one basis with a number of coaches working at the grassroots level of the game and it was really pleasing to see a group of hard working, committed and dedicated volunteers who are not only wanting to improve individually, but genuinely have the best interests of the young players they work with a heart. “Players like Danny Batth, David Davis, Zeli Ismail and Liam McAlinden started playing football at local junior clubs and schools and without the time and commitment the coaches give, many players would not get the opportunity to start playing.” Speaking about the evening, local coach Andrew Cox, manager of Sedgley Scorpions Under 10s said: "It gave me some great ideas for my Under 10s group and was a really useful evening." Nick Brown, a teacher from Oak Meadows Primary School, also attendedthe event. He said: "I walked away buzzing about the possible set ups we could now apply at school, with this continuing to other members of staff upon our return." Following the popularity of the event, Wolves Academy will be looking to hold their next Coach Education Workshop in the coming months, going into slightly more detail on certain aspects of the club’s philosophy for developing young players.
