Michigan Ave., downtown Chicago WHEN: Thursday, August 21st, 2014, at 6:30 PM (pro-Israel event starts at 7 PM) While millions across the world continue to rally in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and for justice and peace in the region, the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF) is again rallying in support of war, occupation, and colonization right here in our city. The Coalition for Justice in Palestine (main convener of the many mass rallies in support of Palestine in the past month), American Jewish groups, and other peace and justice organizations are calling for this die-in and protest of the JUF event (see details below), which has as its keynote speaker Michael Oren, former Ambassador of Israel to the U.S. Its slogan is Chicago Stands with Israel, so ours are going to be Chicago Stands with Palestine and Chicago Stands with Gaza. We must keep up the pressure on the Zionists and the U.S. government, which supports Israel politically, financially, militarily, and diplomatically, and is complicit in its crimes. This past weekend, Palestinians and our supporters declared a huge victory after stopping an Israeli ship from unloading its cargo at the Port of Oakland. It was an inspiring two days of organizing that you can follow by twitter at @uspcn and #BlockTheBoat. Since July 8th, almost 2,000 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 10,000 injured, by the Israeli army in its bombing campaign and ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. Although there is a temporary cease fire, the siege of Gaza and the occupation of Palestine is not over. Israeli violence must be stopped, and those who support the violence must be confronted.
