Coastline Events Shares Insights on Failure from Chris Reed Our team members at Coastline Events frequently look to successful entrepreneurs for inspiration. In fact, we have a long list of influencers whose wisdom motivates us on a daily basis. Chris Reed is one of them. He founded a beverage company called Reeds, Inc., and he has a lot of great things to say about failure. Reed acknowledges that failure is a common concern of many aspiring entrepreneurs, but he makes the excellent point that it is better to not do well at something than to not do it at all. Without taking risks, these individuals would never learn anything, and nothing would ever change. While failure isn’t easy, it stimulates growth. We especially admire Reed’s suggestion that anyone who fails has a reason to be proud. He says, “You don’t fail when you fail.” These six simple words succinctly capture the value in taking risks and making mistakes. Even when things don’t go as many entrepreneurs may have anticipated, there is no reason for shame. Not having the guts to try is much more unfortunate. He continues by saying, “Just do it. Go screw up. There is no lost time.” We at Coastline Events contend that these are words by which to live. Any entrepreneur is more valuable, and has more to bring to the table of a new enterprise, if he or she has some alleged failures from which to glean wisdom and experience. This is significantly more favorable than working with someone who never had what it takes to try at all.
